Welcome to Social Capitalism: A New Economic Vision

In a world where economic growth and social justice are often seen as opposites, a new perspective is needed. Social Capitalism offers a vision in which prosperity and well-being go hand in hand, without sacrificing the power of innovation and entrepreneurship. This platform is dedicated to exploring, challenging and redefining how we frame our economy and society.

Who am I?

My name is Jeroen Schepens. As a thinker, writer and strategist, I find myself at the intersection of economics, media and society. With a background in music, audio design and brand identity in the world of media, I have learned how framing and narratives influence our perception of the world. But my interest extends beyond sound and images.

For many years I have studied the workings of economic systems, political structures and social developments. In my analyses, I do not look for ready-made answers, but for new angles that go beyond the usual left-right debate. Social Capitalism is an outcome of that: an attempt to redefine capitalism and future-proof the economy, without falling into old dogmas.

On this website I share analyses, ideas and sometimes confrontational insights. Not to present a blueprint, but to stimulate thinking and offer alternative perspectives.

Why Social Capitalism?

Traditional capitalism has brought us much: innovation, efficiency and prosperity. But it has also led to inequality, ecological depletion and a short-term focus that can hinder sustainable growth. On the other hand, traditional forms of socialism and government intervention often fall short of encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship. Social Capitalism seeks to balance these forces, aiming for an economy that is both dynamic and equitable.

What can you expect here?

On this website I publish analyses, essays and ideas about:

  • The future of economy and work – How do we adapt to a changing world?
  • Sustainability and Innovation – How can economic growth contribute to a livable planet?
  • New forms of ownership and value creation – What structures can distribute wealth more equitably?
  • Political and social developments – How can policy contribute to a healthy balance between the market and society?

And to begin: an exploration. In the first five blogs, I explore the core issues and misunderstandings surrounding capitalism and politics. How did we get here? What no longer works? And most importantly: how can things be done differently?

  1. The biggest misunderstanding about capitalism: Capitalism and neoliberalism are often lumped together. That blocks discussion of real alternatives.
  2. How we misunderstand capitalism – the historical context: Capitalism once had a social heart. What has changed? And how can we restore that balance?
  3. The well-meaning fallacy of the traditional left: Leftists often fight the wrong problem. Their economic thinking lags behind reality.
  4. How the VVD itself laid the breeding ground for democratic distrust: Years of VVD policies have increased distrust in government. How did that happen, and what is the alternative?
  5. Change the way you look, and what you see changes: Our view of economics and politics is determined by the story we tell about it. What if we rewrite that narrative?

With this series, I take the first step toward Social Capitalism: an economy that works for everyone.

Thinking along, participating

Until now, I published my stories on Substack, but as I found out that that platform is not optimal for my goals, I started this website.

Social Capitalism is not a fixed dogma, but a growing and evolving concept. Soon I invite you to join me in thinking, responding and together laying the building blocks for an economy that works for everyone.

Welcome to Social Capitalism.
